Rainton Meadows Visitor Centre, Houghton-le-Spring
Rainton Meadows has been the Trust’s HQ since 1997 and the Visitor Centre shares a building with the Trust’s main offices. The Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve surrounds the centre, providing visitors with accessible paths to explore the woodlands, grasslands and lakes that make up the site. There is always something to see at Rainton Meadows whatever the season, including all five British owls and a host of other birds, butterflies and flowers.
The centre’s displays, toilet and baby change facilities are open to members of the public from 9 to 4.30 Monday to Friday and 11 to 4 at weekends and on Bank Holidays.
The Coffee Shop provides hot and cold drinks, confectionary, crisps and a range of wildlife related products for sale. It is open from 11.00am – 4.00pm Monday to Sunday.
The centre and coffee shop are closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day.
