Volunteers help Living Waterways clean up the Kyo Burn in Tanfield Lea!

A group of enthusiastic volunteers spent their Saturday (21st January) helping the Living Waterways team clean up the Kyo Burn (a tributary of the river Team) in Harperley Wood, Tanfield Lea. The event was organised with the help of Tanfield Lea Countryside Group (a local conservation group devoted to the upkeep of Harperley Wood) and Durham County Council. The clean up was part of a wider Living Waterways project to improve the water quality of the river Team catchment for people and wildlife.

The volunteers, along with Durham Wildlife Trust staff, managed to pull out several supermarket trolleys, two bikes, and over 20 bags of rubbish. The hard work has massively improved the stream for wildlife by removing unnatural blockages and potential contaminants from the stream bed.
